Grief and Bereavement Support
Family / Parenting, Mental Health - Adult & Senior, Mental Health - Child & Youth, and Social / Recreational
Provided by Lumara Grief & Bereavement Care Society
- Bereavement Support Groups (Circles of Strength): Year-round community-based groups. This program provides ongoing opportunities for those who are bereaved to connect, to share their experiences in a supportive environment and to learn strategies that can assist them in coping with their grief. All groups are facilitated by experienced therapists who are often assisted by trained volunteers. While the program is family-centred in philosophy, each meeting includes a breakout time with separate talking circles and expressive arts therapy activities for adults, youth and children. Pre-registration is required and all new applicants must participate in a phone interview with a group facilitator before attending their first session.
- Community Choirs (Synergy): Lumara’s Community Choirs are currently being offered online until further notice. Each week we meet to sing together for a few hours. There are opportunities for sharing stories, for silence, for contributing song ideas and of course for just letting the power of singing together work it’s magic.
- Counselling: Lumara has a team of counsellors and therapists located all across Canada who specialize in helping those impacted by serious illness, grief and loss. This is a private pay service ($130/hr), however, they do not turn people away for the inability to pay and offer subsidies for those in need.
- Lova, Cora Project: This initiative will supply care packages that offer comfort, hope and practical support to grieving families who have lost a young child.
